Across virtually all sectors, digital technologies are fundamentally changing how organisations work. This has only been accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, pushing companies to adopt new tools and require new skills from employees.

And yet, an alarming number of youth and adults are not yet prepared to make the leap into tomorrow’s workforce: 169 million Europeans still lack basic digital skills. The profound impact of the pandemic has also meant millions have lost their jobs and will now require new skills to regain employment.

To ensure social fairness and to unlock the opportunities of a digital transformation, developing more and better skills is key. The European Commission’s revised European Skills Agenda has set ambitious objectives to meet this challenge by 2025. This includes ensuring that 70% of the EU adult population has basic digital skills.

Closing the digital skills gap is also a central strategic goal in all of MetropolisNet´s latest projects.
