Project Description

The uneven concentration of women and men in different sectors of the labour market is a persistent problem in the EU. Three in ten women work in education, health, and social work (8% of men), which are traditionally low-paid sectors. The COVID-19 pandemic has increased unprecedently this unequal situation putting women in low paid and unskilled sectors of the economy in vulnerable positions.

Also, considering the increasing demand for flexible work arrangements through digital technology during the COVID-19 pandemic, the blurring between work and family roles may be more burdensome for women workers from disadvantaged backgrounds, thus exacerbating the existing inequalities.

In light of such global-scale crisis and war conflicts, where migration, radical life change, needs for further education and work opportunities for women from disadvantaged backgrounds become more urgent than ever, measures to fight inequalities, gender gaps and digital divide are extremely important.

Therefore, the Digital Empow(H)er project will seek to address the challenges around women’s inequality and to encourage adult women’s lifelong learning, skills development and resilience to access opportunities and succeed in the modern labour market.

Building upon a co-design, peer-led participatory cooperation, and guidance approaches, Digital Empow(H)er provides the ground for innovative and relevant working packages, adaptable, sustainable and transferable to many other contexts and, transversally to all labour market and social inclusion guidance services.

Project objectives

The project will:

  1. encourage adult women to be empowered, more resilient and become aware of their own competencies for the modern labour market by providing examples of innovative and interactive learning methods.
  2. develop an adult guidance framework with a focus on digital literacy, which will help address the various challenges that low-skilled women face when it comes to accessing opportunities in the modern labour market.
  3. promote innovation and best practices to address women’s upskilling and learning needs.
  4. improve and extend the supply of high-quality upskilling and learning opportunities for adult women, targeting their specific needs in respect to life and employment challenges.

The project will produce several results such as:

  • Blueprint for empowerment, lifelong learning and employability of women.
  • Training Curriculum for guidance practices focusing on women competencies (Work Design/blueprint/self-assess.tool)
  • Practicioners@work: User validation of guidance training to empower women in a digital working environment
  • Methodological guidelines and best practice recommendations
