In celebration of #InternationalWomensDay, we are highlighting the MetNet projects that empower women across Europe. One such project comes within the FAB: Fast Track Action Boost project – and the bilateral exchange between Berlin and Stockholm regarding the the “Neighbourhood Mums” (Stadtteilmütter) initiative.

At the core of this initiative are women of migrant backgrounds directly supporting and empowering other women: Mothers visit mothers with their signature red scarf and bag containing textbooks, children’s books, games or information material. During each two-hour session, one topic from a suite of ten core fields is discussed.

As part of the FAB bilateral exchanges, the Swedish Partner overtook elements from Berlin-Neukölln in their approach of the “Stadsdelsmammor” (Neighbourhood mums) in Stockholm. As a result, 23 Neighbourhood Mums are already working in several districts in Stockholm!

Local Empowerment Workshop in Berlin, May 2019

The FAB Project “Local Empowerment Workshops” between both cities has thus led not only to a deeper understanding of the refugee policies in each city and a good practice exchange, but moreover to a real transfer, contributing sustainably to the refugee policies and measures in both cities.

This exchange has expanded this important project, which offers women within migrant communities a framework to support and uplift each other – sharing their own expertise and experiences to help others!
