BERLIN, Germany — Offering an innovative new model for generating active citizenship, the Asylum, Migration, and Integration Fund (AMIF) supported MINGLE project reached its conclusion last month, following two years of intense activities.

Invitation to a MINGLING experience in Cyprus

Invitation to a MINGLING experience in Cyprus

MINGLE’s innovative approach worked on both the level of the locals (Lcs) and the Third Country Nationals (TCNs). Harnessing local social agents, the project facilitated active citizenship by developing Social Capital (SC) and Human Capital (HC) for TCNs so as to improve integration capacity.

The pilot program took place on a large scale across 5 different European countries, with a total of 500 locals and 500 TCNs taking part in the activities.

MINGLE developed social networks and relationships between TCNs and locals through two innovative interventions:

MINGLE mentoring sessions in Spain

MINGLING Experiences: local events promoting common humanity through the sharing of stories, objects of common cultural significance, games etc.

Mentoring: Locals were matched with TCNs for personalized mentoring sessions, based on the needs of each mentee.

Participants offered positive feedback about their participation in the project, many of which expressed a desire to continue their mentoring pairing independently of the project.
