An Innovative Toolkit for Trainers for the Development of the DIGITal & Numeracy Competence for Low Skilled Adults

Low skilled adults are among the groups most strongly affected by the recent financial crisis that has hit the European Union and many other countries. Adults specifically lacking low numeracy and digital skills are disproportionately characterised by poor health conditions, lower income, less active involvement in society and a substantial risk of social exclusion.

The European project IntoDigits aims to fill this gap. Funded by the Erasmus+ program, IntoDigits has designed a training course aimed at developing numeracy and digital skills, designed specifically for this target group.

The project has already developed two Qualification Frameworks on Numeracy and Digital competences and 42 digital tools for trainers, useful for the implementation of activities and workshops, that will facilitate increasing the Active Citizenship of participants.

These 42 digital tools are based upon two leading principles:

  • Experiential: In using experiential workshops for teaching numeracy competences, we offer an entirely new approach in the field, designed to facilitate the development of “soft skills” among low skilled adults.
  • Innovative: Our workshops offer innovative ways of delivery, such as spaced learning, engagement, observing, reflecting, storytelling, and more. Learners are urged to engage with the real world, analyse everything that happens in different life spheres and develop skills for logical and spatial thinking.

The development efforts will culminate in the creation of an online toolkit where all the workshops can be found – all under one website: http://intodigits.projectsgallery.eu/

In the upcoming stage, the workshops will be tested and presented to the public, although these efforts are currently frozen due to the ongoing COVID-19 public health crisis.
